Position: Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Position Summary
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays a vital role in generating communications about the Folk School, creating blog articles, and enhancing public relations through various channels. Additionally, the role involves distributing and updating web and print marketing materials, including overseeing catalog mailings and deliveries to local businesses and tourist attractions. The coordinator will also handle administrative tasks for the Marketing & Communications department. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt hourly position reporting to the Marketing & Communications Director.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and executing marketing strategies to promote JCCFS and raise awareness of its programs, events, and cultural offerings through various communication channels, including local, regional, and national media.
- Produce and coordinate written content for Folk School marketing materials (catalogs, brochures, flyers, advertisements, video, website, and email) and both internal and external communications (blog articles, stories about instructors, students, and events).
- Ensure consistent and accurate branding representation across written content.
- Build and maintain strong public relations with the local community and media, coordinating interviews, providing information, and securing media coverage to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Folk School.
- Distribute marketing materials, coordinate with the Gardener and Work Study Manager work-studies distribution of posters and assist with biannual instructor mailings of course catalogs.
- Manage administrative tasks for the department, including updating the website calendar and event listings, coordinating meetings, processing invoices and check requests, handling supply inventory and orders, and maintaining communication with constituents and stakeholders via email, print, and phone.
- Facilitate Instructor communications around class imagery and manage instructor image assets and cataloging in SharePoint.
- Research and initiate outreach opportunities aimed at a diverse audience and community engagement.
- Assist in the coordination of the Folk School’s presence at conferences, festivals, and craft shows.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Director.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, marketing, communications or a combination of equivalent related education and experience, required.
- Previous professional writing or journalism experience, required.
Position Skills/Aptitudes
- Must be an excellent writer and brand communicator
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of community, public and media relations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the news media, public and internal constituents
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer programs
- Knowledge of and some familiarity with marketing analytics
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Strong teamworking skills
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Photography
- Knowledge of/experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Must be a team player willing to help where and as needed
Physical Demands
This position requires limited travel and the ability to drive a car. A current driver’s license is required. The position requires that the employee be able to walk unaided up and down hills and over uneven terrain, bend, stoop, and have use of fine and gross motor skills. The work of this position frequently requires the use of hands to handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects or boxes, up to 40 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will stand and walk occasionally, and frequently sit and work at a computer for up to eight hours per day. Must be able to occasionally work weekends and holidays, as needed. This position requires fluency in English.
Pay & Benefits
The pay for this position is approximately $20.00 per hour. The Folk School offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, generous paid time off and two free classes annually.
