This elegant vessel made by Geri Forkner is wet-felted using calming indigo blue dyed wools for the exterior with a sunny yellow color inside. Circles of wool, hand and free motion machine embroidery, and bead accents dance around the vessel. One might even catch their reflection in the small mirrors placed in the bottom.
Material(s): Wool Fleece, Sequins, Beads, Sewing Thread, Embroidery Floss, Yarn. Some wool was processed and dyed with indigo by Jim and Dale Liles who were household names for natural dye and felting in their day. They both taught at the Folk School.
Artist Name: Geri Forkner
Artist Bio: Geri Forkner creates felted and woven works of art from her studio in East Tennessee. She teaches fiber arts internationally, is a long time teacher at the Folk School, was awarded an Appalachian Craft and Culture Fellowship at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and her award winning art is in museum collections. As member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, Geri cherishes the old traditions and skills while using fibers in innovative ways.
Usage/Care Notes: Protect from moths, regularly examine carefully especially the bottom. There are many articles on moth protection by searching the internet. Do not display in strong sunlight as fading can occur. Although rarely necessary, the surface can be vacuumed by placing netting on top and using a gentle setting. Hanging in bright sunlight can refresh the vessel. It will not need to be washed. Contact the artist with any concerns.
