2025 Student Host & New Campground Opportunities
2025 Student Host Opportunities
Student Hosts hold a unique and important role at the Folk School and are involved in the overall life of the school for several months. They develop relationships with students, staff, instructors, and community members and become a vital communication link among them.
Serving as ambassadors, Hosts help students and instructors have a rewarding, creative, and comfortable experience. This includes guiding students as they adjust to the living, dining, and studio experience unique to the Folk School. The Host is responsible for: welcoming groups at orientation, communicating announcements at meal times, providing support daily in the dining hall, physical setup of furniture/spaces for various programs, attending to urgent student needs (occasionally during class time) and serving as after-hours contact for students and instructors. Host duties and schedules may evolve over time or change week-to-week based on current programming, staff support needs, and event offerings. Hosts will assist with all special events during their session. Hosts are simultaneously working while taking classes. Ideal candidates are energetic and able to balance work time while also participating in classes.
Hosts receive housing and meals during their stay and can take classes every week with tuition covered. They receive three guaranteed class spaces which they can request upon acceptance into the program. For other classes, Hosts register on a “space available” basis meaning they can register a few weeks ahead for classes with spaces left. Materials fees are specific to each class and are the responsibility of the Host. The program is a particularly strong fit for someone who is open to a variety of class types that might be available in a given week.
Please apply if you are adaptable, attentive, friendly, and a strong communicator. This opportunity is a great fit for someone passionate about learning craft traditions while making a significant impact on community life.
New Campground Host Opportunity
Campground Host Campground Hosts will work closely with other Hosts on a rotating schedule. Additional duties unique to Campground Host are verifying campers are in their assigned campsite, assisting campers with gate codes and bathhouse codes, reporting fallen branches and/or overgrowth cleanup to maintenance, fulfilling requests for firewood, and making certain fire rings are operated responsibly and that all campground fires are extinguished properly.
The Campground Host candidate will need to provide their own pop-up camper, van, or RV and reside in our Campground for the entirety of their program session. No tent camping will be allowed for the Campground Host.
