The Elftones play a blend of Irish, Scottish, Canadian, old-time American, and original tunes. With just a fiddle and guitar (and some foot percussion), their lively and exciting music often sounds like four or five instruments. They play ballads, airs and bittersweet waltzes as well as intense, high-energy Celtic dance music with a driving beats and everything in between. Using modern rhythms and non-traditional chord progressions in their music, they create a wonderful fusion of styles.
Fiddler Mara Shea has won Scottish fiddle competitions at the Loch Norman Highland Games and Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Guitarist Roger Golds playing ranges from classical to hard-driving, rhythmic dance music. He likes to "play" with the music; turning waltzes to klezmer, Bach into swing, and becomes even more inventive with some of his own compositions.
