Support Blacksmithing

Named in honor of Clay Spencer, renowned blacksmith, teacher, and supporter of the Folk School, this studio offers classes for new and experienced students to engage in hands-on learning with instructors renowned in their craft. The space includes 12 forges for students and a large instructor demonstrator forge, still using coal as its heat source. Equipped with additional tools and resource rooms for classes, the Blacksmith Studio is a beloved program and structure on our campus. The Francis Whitaker Blacksmith Shop, our old studio space, still welcomes students each week but now acts as an additional tool and finishing room.

With your support, the Folk School can ensure that the Blacksmith Studio thrives and continues to provide opportunities for the hundreds of students who pass through our program each year. Your donation to this program can provide general operating support or focus on specific needs, like new tempering ovens and the replacement of the beloved Folk School tongs. Your gift today will make an immediate impact.

Week or Weekend Scholarships

The Folk School awards several scholarships each year, providing partial or full financial support for a weeklong or weekend class. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who demonstrate financial need along with an admiration for the Folk School’s unique education model.
