Our goal is to provide our students and instructors with a positive Folk School experience of learning and sharing in a safe environment. As we prepare for reopening in 2021, we are following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Complete details about our safety requirements and modifications are available on folkschool.org under "Covid-19 Announcements." Our registration staff is here to answer your questions and discuss concerns at 800-365-5724, ext. 1, or firstname.lastname@example.org, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. EST.
Housekeeping staff will increase the frequency of cleanings of housing, studios, and common areas, using EPA-approved disinfectants for COVID-19 and influenza. Deep cleanings will be performed between class sessions. Hand sanitizing stations including wipes and sanitizer will be available in all studios and common areas.
Physical Distancing and Face Masks
We will require our students, instructors, and staff to practice physical distancing and wear appropriate face coverings in all indoor spaces. Face coverings must cover the nose, mouth, and fit securely under the chin. (According to the CDC, gators and face shields are not considered adequate coverings at this time.) We will also minimize group gathering sizes, which will impact dances, concerts, and demonstrations.
Our food service will be fundamentally different from our typical family-style dining. We plan to offer a combination of staggered shifts, to-go options, designated seating, and the use of outdoor spaces during warmer weather. Rest assured, our dining hall staff will continue to provide full service of fresh and delicious meals, served three times a day.
We are thinking creatively to make the studio experience as safe and comfortable as possible. We have decreased the number of spaces available in all 2021 classes. As the situation improves, we may add additional spaces. If your preferred class is full, we're happy to add you to a waitlist. Students will use designated work stations that are appropriately distanced and clearly marked. We will minimize the sharing of tools and provide monitors and cameras for instructors for teaching and demonstrating. Weather permitting, we will maximize the use of outdoor spaces.
